Neuropsychological Evaluation for Spanish-Preferring and Bilingual Older Adults
My clinical work focuses on comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation of older adults with concerns about memory, cognition, and brain health, with particular attention to individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
I specialize in working with Spanish-preferring and bilingual adults, and my approach is grounded in culturally responsive assessment practices, careful interpretation of results, and clear communication with patients and families.
Areas of Focus
Clinical evaluations may address questions related to:
- Memory loss and cognitive changes associated with aging
- Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions
- Differential diagnosis between neurodegenerative, psychiatric, and medical causes of cognitive symptoms
- Cognitive functioning in the context of bilingualism, immigration history, education, and cultural background
What a Neuropsychological Evaluation Involves
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically includes:
- A detailed clinical interview (often with a family member or informant)
- Review of relevant medical, neurological, and psychiatric history
- Standardized cognitive testing conducted in Spanish or English, as appropriate
- Consideration of cultural, linguistic, and educational factors in interpretation
- A written report with individualized recommendations
Whenever possible, results and recommendations are reviewed verbally with patients and families in a clear, accessible manner.
Practice Context
I direct a fee-for-service clinical practice that primarily serves uninsured and underinsured individuals, with a focus on improving access to high-quality neuropsychological care for Spanish-speaking communities.
Clinical work is closely informed by my research program in brain health equity and community-engaged approaches to cognitive aging.
Referrals and Collaboration
I accept referrals from:
- Physicians and advanced practice providers
- Community-based organizations
- Social service agencies
- Other mental health professionals
I value collaborative relationships and am happy to coordinate with referring providers when appropriate.
